Being Creative Has Never Felt So Good
The Springfield Creative Writer’s Workshop
Come along to Springfield to enjoy this delightful experience - the convergence of a health retreat and the opportunity to work with renowned writers and celebrated teachers, in a small group workshop. A writers workshop and a health retreat in one!
We believe creativity can be supported and encouraged by the environment around you, and this program is designed to inspire you to tune into your creative process, and heighten your awareness of the power of place. You’ll be welcomed, nurtured, nourished, challenged and inspired while you enjoy the generosity of time, space, community and connection.
The menu is designed by a nutritionist, prepared by our in-house chef, and inspired by our own garden produce. Your delicious meals will feature many vegan and vegetarian options and will consist of sugar-free, whole foods - organic where possible, including Locally grown meat, and delicious fresh caught seafood.
Of course whilst the healthy food works its magic, the true highlight in this retreat are the talented and inspiring writers who will lead the workshops: Karen Joy Fowler, Nike Sulway and Catherine McKinnon.
The Springfield Creative Writers Workshop is offered to women writers of any form and genre. Participation is limited to 12 writers to ensure individual attention and to create an intimate, supportive writing community.
The workshop’s focus on process and place is relevant to writers of all levels - those who are already writing a story, are ready to begin writing, and those who have hit some blocks along the way.
Experience the joy of creativity at Springfield
The dream behind Springfield is to embody the philosophy of Inner Landscaping - to create a place where you can experience what its like to live a conscious, creative life in harmony with nature.
That's the dream, and it all starts October 1, 2019. Thats when Peter and I move to our new home - 20 acres in Avoca, Southern Highlands, New South Wales, Australia.
It's a beautiful place already, with stunning northerly views, spring fed dams, orchard, walled vegetable garden, chook house, espaliered apples, large rambling house, barn, sheds, swimming pool, glorious workshop spaces, tennis court and even a tiny vineyard (pics coming soon).
Our intention is to add a food forest, re-wilding meadow, glass house and plant nursery with seedling propagation system, regenerated native bushland, and maybe even an earth-ship. And, of course, bees!
We know that this is not going to happen overnight, but we're not in a hurry, we're here for the joy of the journey - living the good life! We've had a farm before, and we've learned enough to know that for this to be sustainable we have to create a lifestyle that we love, and not just an endless 'to-do' list.
Inspired by Permaculture Design, we'll be spending most of the first 6-12 months observing and pottering, trying and testing and watching and waiting, as we work out the best ways forward and the best places to grow and work. We'll need to test the soil and water, watch the sun and the weather patterns and wildlife, and we'll need to keep a close eye on the garden to see what thrives and what doesn't and why.
The intention at the heart of this dream is to share this process and place with like-minded souls, through workshops, residencies and our blog.
